She Came With Nothing But Hope — Esther’s Story

When Esther Nabwire walked through the doors of the Kijiweni Beauty Hub for the first time, she carried no qualifications, no savings, and no clear sense of what the future held. Like many young women in her community, she had talent and drive — but no pathway to turn them into something real.

That was about to change.

A Program Built for People Like Esther

The Kijiweni Beauty Hub was designed with one clear purpose: to meet vulnerable young people exactly where they are and walk with them toward something better. Through a mentorship-driven, hands-on vocational training program, the Hub offers practical skills in facial therapy, make-up artistry, nail technology, henna design, hair styling, and barbering — alongside business management and digital marketing basics.

But more than skills, the Beauty Hub offers something that cannot be taught in a classroom: belonging. A safe, inclusive space where young mothers, refugees, persons with disabilities, and youth from difficult backgrounds are welcomed, respected, and invested in.

What Happened Next

By the time Esther completed her training, she was a different person — not because she had changed, but because she had finally been given the chance to become who she always was.

“I can now professionally perform facial therapy and makeup application, and I am consistently earning income from my work,” she shares. “This life-changing program has given me a new future.”

Today, Esther is building a career. She is earning. She is confident. And she is one of many young women whose story did not end with unemployment.

The Ripple Effect

Every time a young person like Esther steps into economic independence, the impact reaches far beyond one individual. Families become more stable. Communities become more resilient. And a new generation of self-reliant, skilled young professionals begins to take shape.

At Kijiweni Uplift Youth CBO, we believe this is what real empowerment looks like — not charity, but opportunity. Not dependency, but capacity.
